It has amazing potential as a way to throw some parts together and create arrangements, jam, etc on the fly. But not being able to use external audio tools and fx, or trigger and launch via midi is a major bummer. No one seems to have really nailed this middle space between a full iOS DAW, and the more toy like tools like ikaosilator, figure, etc. just adding midi in/out would make this orders of magnitude more useful but not more complex.

Yeah, Gadget is still my go to on to iPad, it’s reason enough to own an iPad I think. While the iPhone version works fine, I find it a bit too small for me. I tend to use things like Figure, TriqTraq, Auxy, or ikaossilator when I just have the phone with me.

Simple and focused doesn’t mean toy though. I use Auria all the time myself, it’s a great app. But when I have 15 minutes to sketch out a melody in my head, that’s not the first tool I’m going to reach for.

Like this and that novation gizmo @worx? You have real DAW alternatives on iOS already likeAuria Pro and Cubasis. They need more coverage from the media IMO. “You can use an iOS device for something useful” is an outdated line of thought – The apps have matured much more in recent times. Just check the new Moog Model 15 app for example, shows just how much iOS synthesis sound wuality has evolved.
